MEDJUGORJE
PILGRIMAGE & TRAVEL INFORMATION
Medjugorje
is a unique and extraordinary place of inspiration and peace. Millions
have rediscovered their faith and opened their hearts to a true peace
and love towards themselves and humanity. It is not easy to tell the
whole story of Medjugorje which if at all possible must be experienced
individually.
"I
wish that you go back home as a really rich person. I want you to go
back home together with the pearl you have found in Medjugorje; with the
treasure Our Lady wants to give every one of you as her beloved
children. It is what she wants, but it doesn't depend on her. You must
desire that too."
Fr. Jozo Zovko

WHERE
IS:
Medjugorje [meaning 'between the hills'] is located between Citluk and
Ljubuski, about 12 miles south west of Mostar. The parish of Medjugorje
contains four villages including Bijakovici where the 'Hill of
Apparitions', Mt Podbrdo, is situated. Mt. Kricevac, 'Cross Mountain' is
also close by.
WHAT
IS MEDJUGORJE? There
are some places and some people in life that ‘mark’ you forever.
Once you have come in contact with them, they revive in you everything
that seemed buried within your heart forever. Then you recapture a life
full of joy, serenity, and purpose. You understand the reason you are
living, where you have come from, and where you are going. You take your
life back into your hands with vigour. You rediscover a design of love
in your life that trials and difficulties have buried. Then you feel
like a new person, and even others are aware that something has changed
your life. The place that has ‘marked’ me and millions of other
people is called Medjugorje. It is different from other places because
there is a ‘Presence’ there that you do not see but whose effects
and benefits you gather. It is a Presence that speaks to our hearts and
manifests itself in a personal manner for each one of us. This presence
is Mary the Mother of God. In Medjugorje we discover that this mother,
the Queen of Peace, wants to enter our lives. That is the reason She
says to us: "Dear Children, accept me in your lives, because I
desire to bestow my love upon you." Fr Luigi Ferrari
ENTRY
REQUIREMENTS :British
citizens do not need a visa to enter Bosnia and Herzegovina as a visitor
for up to three months. All foreign nationals must register with the
police within 48 hours of arrival. Hotels will usually arrange this for
their guests.
British nationals intending to stay in Bosnia for two weeks or more
should register with the British Embassy in Bosnia; (tel: +387 33 444
429; fax: +387 33 666 131.)
HEALTH:
Medical
and dental facilities are limited, particularly outside Sarajevo and
major towns. There is no reciprocal healthcare agreement for
British nationals. All medical and dental care must be paid for in cash
at the point of treatment. This can be expensive. The E111 for available
at UK Post Offices is not valid in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is
therefore essential that you have appropriate travel and medical
insurance. Advice about inoculations can be obtained from your GP,
airline or travel company. {SEE
www.fitfortravel.scot.nhs.uk/
for innoculations advice}

A
Pilgrim's Prayer
If some things do not happen as they are scheduled
Lord may I remember that I am a pilgrim not a Tourist!
If I should get tired and inclined to become short tempered
Lord may I remember that I am a pilgrim not a Tourist!
If my meal in a foreign country may not be to my particular liking,
Lord may I remember that I am a pilgrim not a Tourist!
If any delays should occur and I should become anxious,
Lord may I remember that I am a pilgrim not a Tourist!
If some other pilgrim is making noise
so that I cannot hear the guide,
Lord may I remember that I am a pilgrim not a Tourist!
When I ask that person to be a bit more quiet
If someone takes a better seat or more choice place,
Lord may I remember that I am a pilgrim not a Tourist!
If I find myself last in line or waiting,
Lord may I remember that I am a pilgrim not a Tourist!
If the person in front of me buys the last item
which I really wanted
Lord may I remember that I am a pilgrim not a Tourist!
If I should get a chance to help another person,
who always seems to be annoying me,
Lord may I remember that I am a pilgrim not a Tourist!
If someone is always the "last one on the bus"
and I am always on time,
Lord may I remember that I am a pilgrim not a Tourist!
But Lord especially let me remember that what I find
objectionable in another is really what you
oft times find objectionable in me
And let me remember this and forgive the other,
As you are continually forgiving me!
